Gentlemen your esteemed favor of 24^th ult came to hand on 3^d Inst, which is duly acknowledged as the notice alluded to in in the law authorising your Bank, and will be laid before the Legislature- to whom I will recommend a review of the act which does not asignate from whence the money shall be drawn to meet the engagements in the Bank provided the stock was Subscribed for. I beg leave to refer you to the act from which I presume, you will scarcely be able to perceive, how I could be autho =rised to become a Subscriber in behalf of the State- for my self I am fully persuaded that the exercise of such a power under

all circumstances would be inconsistant [sic] with my duty to the Citizens of Tennessee as well as unavailing to the institution and more particularly as the Legislature will be in session in a few days-

If in the course of the session any thing should occur, which would render legis =lative interference necessary, it will give me great satisfaction to be the organ through it will find its way to the destined Source
