Port Royal Jany 14. 1818

Sir. The death of Benet Searcy Eqr late Judge has been anounced to this neigh =borhood as having Expired in Nashville a few days Back and as every Individual in society has his Weight in ^a new Nominations in his Neighberhoods or at least they think so. Permit me Sir therefore to give you the Name of James B Reynolds late Member of Congress as his successor the time has been so short, that mr Reynolds has not been consulted tho those I have conversed with from Clarksville Point him out as the fittesest

Since Writing I have spoke several Genln who gave ^Reason for such choice. that Mr Reynolds had been so long in Congres that he is not imployd in [bearly?] any suit in his District and appointmt from any other District would be not be [Expected?]
