To his Excellency Joseph M^cMinn
Governor of the State of Tennessee.

The undersigned, members of the bar, on their
recommendation of a suitable person to fill the
vacancy occasioned by the death of the Hon^ble Archibald
Roane, late one of the Judges of the Supreme Court
of this State, cannot withhold a tribute of respect
for the many virtues which have been conspic-
uously displayed in the different Offices he
has filled - He will long be remembered
with affection - His loss they deplore! -

Should your Excellency think that vacancy
ought to be filled by a resident of East Ten-
nessee, they would respectfully recommend
Thomas Emmerson Esqr as eminently qualified
for that appointment. 10^th Jan^y 1819.
