McMinnville July 8. 1819.
Dear Sir,
I forwarded my resignation to His
Excellency some time in the last month to take
effect the first day of this, but am apprehensive
it has miscarried, consequently have herewith
enclosed ^it to you to deliver to him. The act of
1817. authorises the Courts to make Temporary
appointments until the Governor shall
nominate a successor; which has been done
by the Court of this County.
We have nothing new in the Eastern Empire
save what you hear through the medium
of the public prints. I doubt not but that
you are a candidate for Secretary of State.
Having divested myself of official Badge
I shall be a candidate at the next Session
for Clerk to the H. Repts.
Accept assurances of my sincere
friendship
