Dear Govrnor [sic], The duty of Confering [sic] a
temporary appointment on some Lawyer in this
District to fill the vacancy occasioned by
M^r Campbell's resignation, Devolves on you,
Permit me to inform you that, if appointed
to that office, My utmost exertions shall
be used to Honor your appointment-

I flatter myself that if you knew how
often in M^r Campbell's absence, I have
accepted appointments to prevent the state
from being unrepresented, & as to general
satisfaction &^c I should meet with that honor
