Winchester 13^th July 1819.

Dear Sir. I am requested by Sam^l
B. Moore of this place to say to you that
he wishes to be consider^d an applicant
for the Executive appointment of Sol^r Gen^l
in the [space] district in the room of Th. J. Cam
=pbell resign^d- I have known M^r Moore
about three years during which time he has
practis^d law here- he is a young man
of good disposition and character- of correct
morrels [sic] and unassuming manners- I do
not know who else may wish the appoin
=tment but think it probable that M^r
Moore will be as capable of dischargeing [sic]
its duties as ^any well as any who will be
likely to make application- Tho. my
even oppinion is that a solicitor should
be a man of first rate legal quallifi
cations and experience. tho I can not go
this far in favour of M^r Moore. I have
no hesitation in believing that he is
capable of making a respectable
prosecutor and that he would apply
himself to the duties thereof with care & fidelity
