Rogersville Hawkins County 8d May 1819
To his Excellency Joseph McMin Govern is in
and over the State of tennessee the subscribsber [sic]
your petitionsers [sic] most respectfully represent to your
Excellency that on Saturday the 8 day of May in the
Supreme Court Held in Rogersville Petter Blake
aged about 18 or19 years was convicted of Petit
Larceny and sentenced to receive ten stripes on his
bare back Your petitioners state that from the
[illegible -ner?] in which he was detected by the store keeper
pursued him being ask for the property says
a pair of ladys slippers he did not deny having them
but told the store keeper he should be up presently
and pay him for them from the evidence it
appears the fellony was commited in open day light
in the presense [sic] of many people and the said
Peter Blake went about town from house to house
and never atemted [sic] to make of [sic] with them which
induce your petitioners to believe that efects [sic] in-
toxsacasion [sic] might have prompted him to the perpetration
on of offence while your petitioners abhor the crime
of Drunkness and do not consider it an excuse General
speaking for the comiting any offence yet in
a youth like him not lost intirely [sic] in it your
petitioners state that he has Decended [sic] from
