To his Excellency Joseph McMinn Governor in and over the State of Tennessee. The Petition of the under =signed shew that of the August Term of the Circuit Court for the year 1821 (illegible) at Knoxville, Tennessee James Childress a Citizen of said county was tried & convicted of Petit Larceny & sentenced to receive Tweny five Lashes the undersigned from motives of Humanity, from & a hope of amendment from a respect, to his aged Parents, and from other causes & considerations. Recommend said James Childress to your Excellency for a pardon and your Excellency is now about to leave a situation that you have filled in so distinguised a manner that this last act of your admin =istration may be marked with that distinguished Humanity thus has heretofore characterized your whole life
