Any documents or information tending to elucidate the subject
I should wish to have copies, stated, and transmitted to me at the seat of Gov-
ernment as soon as coveniently can be done. Your own observations will be de-
sirable.
Enclosed is an extract from a general report made by Mr. Jefferson
in 1791 on the subject of vacant lands belonging to the United States. It will
facilitate our enquiries.
The enclosed memorandum contains matters which have been
mentioned to me as useful to be attended to & also an analysis of the particu
lars, which present themselves as objects of enquiry under the 2d condition of the
deed of cession.
A letter similar to this with similar enclosures I have for
warded to the Governor of North Carolina, the Secretary of that state & to the
General state office of N Carolina commonly called John Armstrongs Office
Being a total Stranger to the parts of the country, where these
landed transactions have taken place, and to the Gentlement most acquaint-
ed with them it renders my obtaining the necessary information did
ficult, and the application for it, in some degree awkward and indelicate.
Any communications, assistance, or necessary documents, which you can
procure, or cuase to be procured & transmitted with a bill of expense
attending the same will be very grateful to me useful to the public.
I have the honor to be, Sir, respectfully
Your most Obt hum. Servt
