Knoxville 16 April 1797

Sir

As Major Evans Nathaniel Evans
was coming Traveling from Kentucy to this
place ^last week the indians stole from him
two horse beasts of the following
discription [sic]- A sorrell [sic] horse about
fourteen hands & half high a small
star, 8 or 9 years old - A bay mare
near fourteen hands high, her age
not known, neither does Evans remember
their brands if any they have

You will please to make enquiry
give the cheifs [sic] of the Nation notice,
in order that the B horse & mare may
be ^Enquired after, obtained & returned to Major Evans the owner
