himself, and from him Down to every subordinate officer has not [?] been loaded with their calumny- They have resorted to every pitiful object
their rancor
ion, alledging it was not Lawful to send men out of the State, with
that the officers was not selected according to rotation, Seniority,
Rank, &c Law &c,- And the Fact was we had were nearly
one month of time immediately ^after your request came forward
without any Militia Law being legally in force & use- Therefore
the Executive was resorted to such expedients that induced him to
believe would best promote the [Views?] of speedy expedition with the
least possible delay- Iprevailed on Wm Maclin esqr Secretary
of State to immeadiately proceed to Nashville in order to make
^use of every effort to promote the business, whose Zeal activity & address,
have contributed very essentially to raising the troops, and without
which it must the expedition must have enivitably ^have failed - Mr
Maclin has expended a considerable sum on the Occasion, which
Ihope will be refunded buy the General Government, otherways he
will be greatly the looser, for our Legislature refused to appro-

The troops are now on their March home, and is daily
expected to arrive, probably have reached Nashville already; so
soon as they may ^do arrive, Muster & payrolls agreably to your request
will be forwarded, and Imake no doubt they ^the men will be paid the
usual wages mounted Infantry of this Country has been accustomed
to receive, (to wit) 75 Cents P[er] day with Rations & forage furnished
them,- this is what they will expect, and what will perfectly satisfy
them and nothing less, and I earnestly hope nothing less will
