department of war will inform me, whether or not, the United he
will in behalf of the United States, allow or pay the expense
services I have mentioned- permit me to observe, that since
the present Government has taken place every speces of expend
=iture have as much as possible been ^been avoided, and it will
be my care so to do, as long as I have the honor to preside
therefore I beg leave to suggest that, the Federal Government
would not object to the payment of so small an expense
incured in almost two years
