Nashville october 14- 1796-
sir I Received your Excellencys letter, with the
Blank Commmissions Inclosed to me for filling up
But, as party Run uncommonly big in the next Election
of Brigader [sic] general, I did not think my self at
liberty to fill such Commissions it ^is Beleaved [sic]
your Excellency intended by sending and otherising [sic] me
to fill them, to give general satisfaction to the
District. But as the two lower County wished [Ford?]
and the two upper Countys Wintchester one party
ware [sic] in faver [sic] of the Commissions Being filed, the
other much larger insisted it improper, as the law
for holding the Election seamed [sic] to contemplate that
the old Cavelrey [sic] officers ware intitled [sic] to voet [sic], I
have Inclosed the Blank Commissions, as I suppose
a Return will Reach you soon, those officers, now being
Duley Elected - some uneasiness have Bin [sic] on account
of the suggestion of the Claims Commission, But
as Wintchester ^election held good, I suppose it will die [away?]
it has Bin [sic] the general opinion of the people of this
County that no Commission, Could Be leagealy [sic] held
Back, whare [sic] a Return had Bin [sic] Received. from the proper
officer, of thare [sic] being duely Elected. I apprehend that by
this time that ^part of the Constution is not so pleasing as
at first, the moad [sic] of Election military ^officers [?] the only
part I Blamed at the making the Constution. I am hartily [sic]
glad to heare [sic] of your Recovery and Beleave [sic] me to
Be your Excellencys most obediant [sic] servant
