first opportunity I have had since I
received advice of the fact, I hereby, in
behalf of the Cherokees, demand that
the perpetrators be brought to punish
=ment. If this be complied with, I can
with a better grace make the like demand
of the Cherokees, & I would forfeit my life
that the culprits should be brought to
justice. Let us no longer boast of
our civilization, of an equitable government
& salutary laws, if we cannot radduce one
fact to authenticate the theory.
