You observe you have never rec^d information of
the murder of our People from M^r Dinsmoor, the reason
is very evident, he has not been here since we rec^d informa
=tion of it, he being down in Towns, I suppose
on some Public business, therefore we consider the Comma
=nding officer here to be the person to conduct such Bu
siness in M^r Dinsmoor's absence - What Ihave said is with
coolness and deliberation, and Ifurther assure you that
my greatest wish is to live in Peace & friendship with the
White People. -
