Sir/

I having Accepted of a Commision
from the president of the United
States appointing me one of the
Commissoners of the United States
for the State of Tennessee Under the
act of Congress passed the 9^th of
July last Entitled "An act for the
Valluation of lands houses
and the Enumaration of Slaves"
to which Commission, Compensasion
for services is Annexed, and having
examined the Constituion of this State
which declears in the 23^rd section
artickle the 1^st "that no person hold
=ing any Office Under the authority
of the United States shall have a seat
in the General Assembly"

I am of Opinion that my seat as
the Senator for the County of Knox is
vacated, I give your Excellency this
Information, to the end that if you agree
with me in Oppinion you may Ishue
a writt of Ellection for the Election of
some other person in my place and
stead-
