Sir,

The promptness with which your Excellency
has attended to the suggestions of grievances sustained
by the citizens of Tennessee, and the most perfect
assurances that due attention will be paid to
well meant representations on the most important
subject that has occurred since we had existence
as a state, will be a sufficient apology for
the opinions we take the liberty to offer -

The undersigned citizens of Tennessee
having seen with some concern, a report made du-
ring the last session of Congress by a committee
to whom was referred a resolution authorising an
enquiry into the situation and extent of the va-
cant and inapropriated Lands claimed by the
united States under the State of North Carolina
and the expediency of making provision for the dispo-
sition thereof have with some anxiety expected
the State of Tennessee whose citizens ar prin-
cipally concerned, would give the business that
consideration which the importance of it appeared
to demand, and pay due attention to the
intimations respectfully submitted by congress to
