John Sevier Governor in and over the State of Tennessee.

To the Sheriff of Sumner County.

Whereas His Excellency Christopher Greenup Governor of the
State of Kentucky hath forwarded to me a transcript of an
Indictment ^duly authenticated found and returned by the Grand Jury of the
Circuit Court for Christian Circuit, in the said State of Kentucky
against John Stewart for horse stealing, and have charged the said
John Stewart with being a fugitive from Justice; And hath in due
form demanded him of the Executive of this State, in conformity with
the provisions of an act of the Congress of the United States, entitled
"And Act respecting fugitives from Justice and persons escaping from
the service of their masters," and Ihave been informed that the
said John Stewart resides in Sumner County about a mile and a
half from Cumberland River and about six miles above from Bledsoe's
lick to the right of the road leading from said lick to Fort
Blount
. That he is a large well proportioned man dark
complexion
