Nashville 6th July 1809

Sir

I was honored with your Excellencie's
letter of 23 June & have strictly attended
to its contents- The time named by
yourself & Colo. Meigs is in my opinion
very suitable- y wish is that the treaty
may be effected, or progress so far that
their can be no difficuty before your
time as Govenor expires, and in time for
the Legislature to act on; The drafts or war-
rants I brought out Mr Crutcher tells me
he will take up & will be able to take
in warrants to the amount of two or three
hundred dollars more by the time I set out,
If your Excellency thinks proper to send on
the warrants- I should suppose that one
thousand dollars might nswer the holding
the treaty- for I tooke the measures last spring
which you now advise the Chiefs, that as
the purchase contemplated was small, and
that a large collection of Indians would
cost more than the value of the land, that
Chiefs only should attend - I shall set
out so as to give myself time to see and
go in with the chiefs - I shall hope still
to have your Excellencies advice and directions
while I am your most Humble servant
