Maryville Novr 11th 1808,
To his Excellency John Sevier Governor
in and over the State of Tennessee
The Memorial of the undersigned in behalf
of themselves and as Delegates from the
Yeomanry within the bounds of the different
Companies composing the Regiment of Blount
County respectfully showeth - - -
That through the measures which have been
adopted by the General Government with
respect to commerce with foreign Powers it is
evident that the people of the United States
are generally subjected to great inconveniencies
and pecuniary embarrassments Notwithstanding
those ^measures were wise and the best that cou'd be devised
under the then existing circumstances we readily
admit- To those evils in common with our
fellow Citizens of United America others still
of a more serious and distressing nature operate
on and threaten the Citizens of that District
of this State which lies south of Frenchbroad
and Holston - Amongst these may
be enumerated -
1st The almost total failure of the staple
product of our Country for two years past
2d The considerable sums of money which
these Citizens will in a short time be
