Memphis June [2nd?] 1851

Gov. Trousdale

Dear Sir A large number of the bar of this place having recommended the appointment of the Hon. W R. Harris to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of Judge [Farley?], and as there may be other applicants, I have taken it upon my self, to con - - sult, with the Party, and community, about the appointment, and find that the most substatial of them are very anxious that, you should give the appointment to Judge, Harris. and I am fully satisfied, that it would be the best, among us that applicants [base?] is strictly democratic and has [pemane - - ntly], located in our City.

I think you will give your self no uneasiness about your success for the vote for you will be[ illegible ] increased, West of the Tennessee; the work goes bravely on here abouts.

Your Friend Truly and obd Servant Jno D Goodall
