Chicago Nov. 29, 1858 Dr. JA Kennicott Dear SirAbsence from (unclear) (unclear) fence my return (unclear) (unclear) from (unclear) your letter of the 17th. at an earlier date. The (unclear) of payment for (unclear) two cash lots of (unclear), I think, (unclear) (unclear) (unclear) fixed; but (unclear) shall cause no delay on my part. I could (unclear) taking deposit the money to your credit on the 15th. of January, if possible, I could do so sooner. I have enough due me, but, like yourself, I find it extemely difficult to make collections. The Early (unclear) you sent me I can use (unclear) our (unclear) Nancy has died, and others, I fear too feeble to stand the winter. Mr Kennicott Dear Sir Your letters have been received and also the box of roots in good order - I am well pleased with the roots but I think you must have made a mistake in some way about the Peonias. You wrote you would send eight best Peonias for two dollars and ten single ones for one twenty five, there was only ten in the box, I thought perhaps the rest might have been put in some person else's box, the other roots were all right; and I am very much obliged to you for the two roses which you sent I hope I shall have better luck with them this time, you wished me to give you the names

Dear Sir

Your favour of recent date did not reach me till yesterday I am sorry to say it finds me out of funds but I have a promise of one hundred dollars this month and if I get it will send you the amount due at once

You should have been paid long since had not this been to me a season of disappointm ent in every respect out of over one hundred ones of grain sowed I have not gathered a bushel

I had fully intended to have been at your place this fall (Just [part?]) and have seen your nursery but have at present nothing to do with hope to be better off on other year with much respect
