113[written to side in different ink than letter] Jan 25th 1858[inserted above in pencil] Thursday Dear Father No letter from you yesterday. One came from Mr Loomis. I enclose it. He sent a postage stamp. By Monday's mail we got "Hunts Merchants Magazine" containing a biography of Marshall P Wilder. Also by the same mail we got a copy of the "Boston Daily Courier" containing a notice &c of Hon Wilder. I send the paper by todays mail. The price was mar- =ked when it came - Don't that mean "notice"? The boys got home from Chicago late Teusday night they felt a trifle chilly or so. Doct has been quite well. - I have got rid of my cough. We had a little snow last night. My Chickens look a little blue but none got

frozen to death. I must have skins of that "black gopher" Promise some boy a dollar that will send me five or six next spring. Baird will take part of the skins and refund If they could be sent alive it would be best but I could skin them after they have been dead a week or so. 114[written in different ink than letter, circled at top of letter] so if it proves to be different from the fig tree coccus my name will hold good. Ask the folk who have osage orange hedges to whether they have seen the coccus on them. It has a very large scale and secretes much web. It is beggining to drizzle a little It will rain before nigh - I see in imagination the sweet roads we are now to have for awhile Son Bob I send Wight the article before I knew it would [illegible] go with this[underlined in red] [illegible][underlined in red]
