It is not necessary to use very strong alcohol for specimens. Indeed to put large snakes in strong spirit, is injurious as the outside is immediately so hardened that the alcohol cannot get inside. A dilution of the 95 percent spirit with one half its bulk of water will be about right.

In collecting this season dont trouble yourself about the large fish: go it strongest among the minnows: Etheastomas &c

Mr. Girard will label you grasshoppers &. These, with spiders mynapods, naked mollusks - all soft critters generally, put up in alcohol.
