Racine June 28 - 1855
Dear Bob,
last night I received yours with the Cicada - an interesting species - I am and have been full of business, over head and ears, but yesterday I commenced the article for the Ill. St. Ag. Soct, and shall finish it today or tomorrow unless greatly interrupted - I want you to append a short note giving the localities of the Locusts appearance last year and this - how far North the crop of 1855 extends or will or how far south the last year - harvest extended -
I treat the subject rather in a popular manner, not going into minute details - the principle reason for selecting this subject was in order that their appearance [illegible] in these years might find a permanent record in the Transaction for these years -
I shall make my calculations to be

with you at the Fair - I am greatly anxious to, overhall your collection - and see what wonders you have, picked up -
I am in a great hurry, and will write a long letter by and by to pay off -
If you see you father tell him the article will be on hands in a few days without fail - I want you to be sure and collect me a suit of the Pupas - cart shells - and perfect insects of the 17 yr Cicada as well as a branch in which the eggs are deposited - put the branch in Alcohol - in order that the eggs may not hatch - Now you will doo this wont you? That's a good boy -
All Send love,
Yours Truly PR, Hoy
