I will go to Springfield within a few days of my arrival at Decatur.

A few days ago Camack came to offer $50 as the damage allowed for ruining that road. Charlie declined it. (too bad to refuse it when the mony would be acceptable) Camack notified Studly - Road. Commissioner) of the refusal & ordered him to open "said road" provided he knew it to be legal, but suggested the propriety of examining the papers in the Town Clerks hands.

Mr Studly did examine examine the "said papers" & thought perhaps he'd better not act upon such doubtful authority. - we thought so too.

So the matter of ordering open the road is "did up". Wonder what Harromen said when

he fond it wouldn't go? - guess the dear man said naughty words. The rip still tells people the road is a legal one & several have gone through. But they'll get sick of that presently as the fence is not easily pulled down. If we can catch Harrowen telling his lie he'll catch - it He is getting in bad odor with all the neighborhood.

Got a letter from Dr Kirtland - He wants Charlie Pease to go onto the vessel when she goes back to Chicago. -

I am certainly clear of ague but still I do not feel well. A little weak a furred tongue etc But I think I shall be all right in a few days.

We have had a heavy rain
