Dear Father

We rec'd two letters from you to day. I dont see why you have not rec'd more from us for we have (some ^one of us) written every mail.

We are having quite pleasant weather just now. It has rained a good deal for the last two weeks. & the weeds grows alwful fast.

Charlie has hired Mattias for a year if Laurence will stay a fortnight longer. ho we ar

The girls went down by the Mich - South - R. R. they stayed a couple of days in Cleveland with Dr Kirtland Bob is not going away this week We have lots of company J

Dear father

With a desperate effort the Major got thus far - then "broke", "dead" It is monstrous hard work for the major to write & you [circled] 3 must not think he is neglectful when he don't write - We heard from the girls in Cleveland. They were all right. I shall not go this week - Mary has promised

to stay with mother till the girls come back N.B. Mother wants you to ask at uncle Asas & house & office & at uncle wills office if there is a bundle for her.

I have been writing some letters to station agents down south and I shall be mighty careful how I go down into those infernal bottoms in a hurry. I did not take quinine sunday as I think it may be the cause of my feeling badly.

Uncle Will is going to have a dance etc on the 4th In the afternoon all hands are to help clear out the graveyard, - trim up trees &c and perhaps have a fall play.

All going on well I think you were mistaken as to the state of things at home You came at a bad time - Charlie is getting along well. He has done an immense deal of work He does not have any trouble with the men as you seemed to think he did.

A letter for you came from Baird he gives some more names - (of men to be invited somewhere)
