Philadelphia 27 July 1855

Dear Robert:

Your letter of July 4th was duly received and is one of the most interesting letters that I have had for a long time, - I have a great mind to transcribe your account of the Prairie Chicken for publication in the Proceedings of the Academy - it is not only interesting but of scientific value - suppose you prepare a regular paper on "The Natural History of the Tetrao Cupido," by Robert Kennicott, West Northfield Illinois. - I will see that it is printed in our Proceedings, - incorporate into it all that you have written to me and you will make a paper on this bird, worth reading - in fact the only full account of it ever published, -

I am afraid though that you cannot remember the particulars of in your last letter to me and so will send back that portion of it, if you wish - do try your hand at this paper -

Your letter containing specimens of Locusts was duly received - I am fully convinced that there are two species - and that Cicada Cassinii is a good and distinct species.

- By the way suppose you write a notice of the appearance of these Insects - I mean also for publication in the Academy Proceedings - state extent of country in which they appeared as far as practicable and every thing else that you observed, - I will see to publishing it - - the next No. of our Proceedings will be published 1st Sept. - Your observations in several of your letters to me ought to be printed and if you will not prepare the papers for publication in our Proceedings my present intention is to do it myself - think of that Robert! - get right at it -

As soon as my 10th no. is published I will commence arranging a small ornithology like Nuttalls - now partly written - - dont know when I will get it done -

I have sent my 9th no. to Dr. Kennicott Chicago - enclosed is a list of subscribers who have not paid - which you requested but I do not hold you bound to collect

Always glad to hear from you and would like to see you in Philadelphia

Ever yours John Cassin

Mr. Robt. Kennicott
