Dr S. L Abbot (Com. Secy of B. So. N. H)
Dr Dr. Shaw wrote me a note a few days since to learn what specimens for our cabinet (BS.N.H) are wanted, from the catalogue published in the Transactions of the Illinois State Agricultural So. Vol. 1.1853 & '54 on examination [illegible] neg. at the City Library (the copy in the Library of BSNH being out) I find the reports there give a very limited list in the branch of Conchology, & I have only made a list of a few of the most desirable of them, yet we have no objections to receiving a suite of the shells of the State

of Illinois, to compare with those of our collection. as often it oc curs that species are confounded & misnamed.
Perhaps & probably many new species have been found in Ill. since 1853, which may be very desirable. Therefore in addition to the short list for the Catalogue in the "Transactions" I would suggest to Mr Robert Kennicott of West Northfield, Cook Co. Ill, a Corr. Memb; I would suggest that he might add such as he might choose, beyond my list, of those named in the Trans! as well as those since found in that region
