This letter was probably not written in 1856 but rather in 1857 when Robert Kennicott received the appointment as Curator at Northwestern University, but unfortunately cannot be confirmed by the postmark [p.2] which was imprinted on the postage stamp that was removed from the envelope.

Action: Changed [?] word to [illegible] in line 26 for consistency and could not determine signature either.

The illegible word in the signature is probably "Jno." as this letter was written by John Evans, co-founder and President of the Board of Northwestern University and future Governor of Colorado Territory.
