The Grove June 20th 1857

Dear Bob,

I have not written to you for some time it is not because I have not thought of you often enough. but I have been almost sick for the las week. my face has been swelled very badly. Father pretends not to know what is the matter. at any rait it is something that is very painful, I did not sleep much last night, so you must excuse the writing. It has rained for this last week all the time, and still continues, I begin to thingk we shall be flooded. befor long. The roses are beginning to come out just a little, [illegible], and yellow ones.

Major got home yesterday. the poor fellow had rather a sorry time of it.

I will write more - you must take this just for [illegible] [illegible]
