Memphis. Tenn. Nov. 4, 62

Dear Bob.

I hear you are back again How are you, old boy? Write me a letter immediately like a good fellow & tell me what you found & saw. I am here attending the Artillery, of which I & my assistants have about 1300 men under our care. We have built a big fort about two miles long during the summer. Now I want to move either to the Gulf of Mexico or to Lake Michigan. I have some expectation of being home this winter but no certainty. How is the Academy? What did you see in the Russian possessions? What new animals did you find? &c &c.

Give me love to Cor, & my respects to your father & mother. I shall be back to Chicago to live presently, perhaps this winter.

Yours of old E. Andrews.
