Lifton May 18/58 Friend Kennicott No arrangements have been yet matured in respect to holding a fair of the Ill. Hort. Soc. next fall What would you recommend to be done? ie. Where to hold it and in what manner to [condnet] it. Are " Bentral Com", do not think it best to meet with the Ag. Soc. and propose a separate fair. I wish to get the views of those who will be most interested in the matter that some(underline) arrangements may be perfected very soon. Prospects are good for fruits throughout the state and I think a show may be "got up" which will do credit to the state- and perhaps "will pay" (underline)

Our sourthern friends will be willing to come into the northern part of the state, even as far as Chicago if a majority of the brethern north desire it. I am aware that this matter should have been settled before now. but I have but just learned the state of the affairs. Please write me as soon (underline) as convenient and please particular- (underline) ize(underline) in your advice, as you have had experiences in these matters and I(underline) know your opinions are worth something.
