Dear Friend I I recd your note under date of th 13 inst and was very glad to hear from you &c.
I will say to you that I am all in a hurley burley at this time and cannot write any thing that will interest you much the Cars on our Ohio and Miss R Road will make their first Trip from St. Louis to Salem on the 28, (Tomorrow) and the Citizans of this County are Greeting them with a good dinner which will keep me and friend Mills very busy untill it is over and then I shall have more time to write to you &c - the Peoples of Salem and vicinity are in grate glee at this time on account of the arival of the Cars on our R Road.. Since my return from the State fare I have been quite busy in the cause of agriculture,, we have purchaced sixty acres of Land near the Crosings of the R Road and calculate to fit it up for, a State and County fare Ground and would like to have the State fare held here next fall if it would meet with the approbation of the Executive of our Society &c (what do you think of the matter)
You say you want some of the Eqyptians to do a little writing to help you along with the Volum on agriculture. I think that we will try and help you to a few articles on the various branches connected with

that subject and send it to you and the Docs may do as he may think proper in the premises You say that you think of coming down to Egypt about Christmas I say come along and see us,, you can come to St,, Louis and from there to Salem and when you get to Salem you will find our Friend Ray Keeping Public House on one corner of the Public Square and his door will be open to the old Doctr with a heaty welcome &c - it is now said that the cars will be runnig on the Ills Central R Road by the 1st day of Jany from one end to the other and if so you can come to the Crossings and then to Salem by Rail way &c the Cars are now Running from the Crossing to Cairo daily on the Ills. C. R Road &c,,, I had the misfortune to loose my Trunk while on my way to meet the delegate's to attend the National Cattle Show at Springfield O and did not have the pleasure of Going to Ohio to attend that Grate festaval &c - I did not recover my Trunk untill last friday and then I found it at Bloomington I went from here all the way to Chicago in surch of It[underlined] and finely found it in Bloomington,, while on Rout I see our friend "Frances" & Arney ofBloomington and wont liked to of seen the Doct if I had of had Time &c, but the Old Doct must come down and see me &c. I was in Chicago Two days last week.. Prest Brown & Mr Arney Bought some stock at Springfield Ohio.. I saw the Cattle and they were fine.. I will Try to be in Spring field Ills to our Election in Jany.. Pleas think over the matter of haveing the State fare in Egypt nex

there are a few of us that are making preperations to have some thing said on the subject of the Industrial University here before long and Calculate to Send an invitation to Dr Rulliford and others and would like to have you and B Murray Presant at the time and take a part in our deliberrating and I expect we will have it come off about Christmas - I will write you again when our Grate R Raad festival is over and I have more time.. our County Agricultural Society have revamped up and I think we will be able to make a very good Show by next fall
