Text of Petition (drag lower right corner to enlarge box): First write 30th Dec. 1802 Sir, It is understood that commissioner here before appointed by the State of North Caroline to extend the line between that State and Tennessee as described in the letters as have been and marked a line. As the state of Tennessee so equally interested I take the liberty of requesting that you would cause to be hand over to me for the wish of the State an account of the proceedings of the Commissioners, or a map of the line if any has been made

If any fees shall be due by law on the copy requested you will please to equal the amount to be stated and they shall be transmitted by the first safe conveyance I have this honor so signed Archibald Roane His excellency James Turner Governor of North Carolina

The which are now ready and will be forwarded by the first safe conveyance; as the map is laid down on a large scale I think it more then probable I would sustain an injury if sent by the mail unless you think proper to direct it by that conveyance

Mr. White charges twenty dollars for the copies, which I am persuaded you will deem best reasonable when you see them. He desired me to request you to pay that sum to Mr. Charles McChing and forward his receipt for that amount received on his [behalf?] (Signed) J Turner

Text of Petition (drag lower right corner to enlarge box): To the humble the general assembly of Tennessee Gentlemen, As the 30th of December last I wrote a letter to the Governor of North Carolina respecting the boundary line between that state and Tennessee, requesting a map of the line if any has been made. Copies of my letter and answer are here with sent for your perusal. I admit that my letter was written without any special authority. The paper are not yet received, nor are he fees paid. But I feel myself bound in honor to make the payment and keep the papers as private property unless you should think proper to have them deported among the public papers of the States and exonerate me from the payment of the expense I am, Gentlemen Your Mr Obedient Seward Archibald Roane 12th October 1803
