Description
Gliun, Gleean or Gliyan is both a totem term and also an animal name, literally ‘water-hen’ Gleean was also a patrilineal totem term, or Thundung, literally ‘elder-brother’ (see Howitt 1904:135). Bulmer termed this category of totem term Jaak, literally ‘meat’. Gliyan is a 'regularized spelling' not found in the originals. This is the purple swamphen (page 138 of hw0404).
