A W Howitt Esq
Sale Gippsland

My dear Sir,
I have returned from my
travels in Queensland and as I
picked up some information
about some of the tribes up in the
north - I now forward it to you
Unfortunately the blacks up
there speak very bad English so
that it is difficult to make
them understand what you want

I found that very few of the
tribes practice that operation
called Koolpi by Mr Gason, and
one tribe - the Kalkadune who
practice it is surrounded by
others who do not, most of the
tribes knock out two teeth at
inititation ceremony and a great
many of the married women
