Mrs. Caroline Goldsmith Senior Vice President Ruder & Finn Fine Arts 110 East 59th Street New York, N. Y. 10022

Dear Caroline:

Thanks for your letter of July 20. I am Glad that you feel positively about the Today Show segment of July 5. Did you get a chance to see the CBS Special Sunday, July 31? Better still, did the young man across the way from Lisa record it on his video machine? I hope so, as it was not shown here in the state of Maine and I have hopes of still being able to see it.

I am glad that Leonard was able to fill in for the other show Lisa arranged. He is so well qualified and I am sure that he did a fine job. Do you have his new address, or has he moved to Sacarmento to assume his post with the California Commission on the Arts?

I am happyto report that my health is good afterall. I showed some signs of fatigue upon arrival here and my physician did not want to take any chances. I still have one additional test to undergo. I shall be returning to Hyattsville August 19.

Thank you for all that you have done to make "Two Centuries of Black American Art" the great event it has been. I am sorry that it is winding down. Thelma joins me in sending warm regards.

Sincerely yours,

David C. Driskell

RUDER & FINN

July 20, 1977

Mr. David C. Driskell

Dear David:

The Today Show segment on July 5 was absolutely fantastic! And, it was solong I couldn't beleive it. You were your usual marvelous, articulate, intelligent self. It was a grand finale.

Leonard Simon flew in for Positively Black, and Lisa arranged three more interviews for him. I'm enclosing a current list of media "achievements".

Your first expense bill was sent to Philip Morris and they're going to pay you directly, minus the train fare of $50. They needed official back-up, the train ticket, to put the check through. I'm going to have Ruder & Finn put through a check to you for hyour second expense invoice in the amount of $171.54, plus the $50 for the train.

I would like to hear from you as to how your doctor found your health. My regards to Thelma, and be well.

Cordially, Caroline Caroline L. Goldsmith Senior Vice President Ruder & Finn Fine Arts (212) 593-6435

Program Manager WGAN TV. CBS Affiliate Highway 26 Portland, Maine 04104

Dear Sir:

I am writing to express my regret at not being able to see the CBS Special program on art which was presented Sunday, July 31 at 10:00 AM EST.

My interest is somewhat selfish as I wrote the script and narrated the hour long presentation. Much of my work as artist, writer and filmmaker, mueseum curator and advisor to the President on the Arts in our nation, has been done here in Falmouth where I have lived during the past sixteen summers.

I hope that it will be possible to show the presentation here at a later date.

Sincerely yours, [signature] David C. Driskell
