Mr. Jack Burnham, Chairman
Department of Art
University of Maryland
College Park, Md. 20742

Dear Jack:

This letter will acknowledge with thanks your correspondence
which informed me of my recommended salary for the 1984-85
academic year. I wish to thank you for all you did to make my
decision to remain at Maryland a positive experience.

I was displeased to learn that Professor Rearick took it
upon himself to bring the matter to the attention of the Art
History faculty and discussed the matter without your urging
and further presenting it as though it reflected negatively
on your judgement and that your superiors. I will advise
Professor Rearick that I consider his actions to be an invasion
of my private and personal life and any future repeat of the
matter will subject him to legal review by my attorney.

I hope that your work is going well and that you will
have a chance to get away and rest before the new school year
begins. Have a good summer.

Sincerely,

David C. Driskell
