Mr. Allan L. Edmunds A. L. Edmunds Associates 1520-22 Kater Street Philadelphia, Pa. 19146

Dear Allan:

As per usual, I am off in the wilds of Maine and find it difficult to get to a phone. When I did manage to try and reach you you were out. I left word that I would like to serve as a panelist/curator for the exhib ition you mentioned entitled "Connections: Black American and Itlaian Artists Exchange but find the dates you suggested inconvenient. I have already committed my being on hand for the Annual Governors and Trustee meeting of the Skow hegan School of Painting and Sculpture on August 3rd and 4th. Is it possible for you to arrange for the consultation to take place at another time?

I await your response and wish you well in all of your endeavors. Allan, you are a busy man. I am glad to be of service whenever I can as I admire all of the things you have set forth in the arts. As for myself, I am painting and trying to write some also. I have just returned from a week in New Orleans where I curated an exhibition at the New Orleans Museum of Art entitled TURNING POINT: THE HARLEM RENAISSANCE: FROM TRADITION TO ETHNIC EXPRESSON. Apart of the exhibition is at the Afro-American Pavilion at the Fair, that being the TOUSSAINT L'OUVERTURE SERIES by Jacob Lawrence. Both segments are being well received.

Thanks for the good news about the Workshop. The 1985-86 term would be best for me.

Sincerely yours,

David C. Driskell

Maryland Commission on Afro-American History and Culture

Administrative Offices The Banneker-Douglass Museum 84 Franklin Street Annapolis, Maryland 21401 301-269-2893

July 23, 1984

Dear Friends:

This year marks the 350th Anniversary of the founding of Maryland. As part of this observance, we have planned AFRAM '84, a 2 1/2 day conference in Annapolis, October 10, 11, and 12. This year's conference theme is MARYLAND: The Afro-American Experience, 1634-1984 - Family, Property, Religion, and Status.

You will have a chance to meet people from around the state who are specialists in Afro-American life and history. You will also meet community people who are working to preserve artifacts and historic schools and churches which reflect the black heritage. Also, there will be opportunities to share your experiences and explore ways that we can be more supportive of each other.

During AFRAM '84, you will tour the recently opened BANNEKER-DOUGLASS MUSEUM; stroll the ancient streets of Annapolis; enjoy a live performance using African musical instruments and performers; and view exhibits. Some of you will recall AFRAM '76. Well, AFRAM '84 is an update and much, much better!!!

Registration information is enclosed. Please return the yellow and blue sheets in the enclosed envelope by August 18, 1984. We hope to see you at AFRAM '84.

Sincerely, Carroll Greene, Jr. [signature] Carroll Greene, Jr. Executive Director
