[GREETING CARD WITH EMBOSSED SAYING ON RIGHT-HAND SIDE: "YOU ADD A TOUCH OF LOVELINESS TO EVERYTHING YOU DO."]

[LEFT HAND SIDE MESSAGE; HANDWRITTEN]

February 15, 1986

Dear David,

Jay and I really enjoyed your exhibit at the Bronx Museum. It is stimulating to see such fine art and a special bonus to know that the work was produced by black artists. Thank you for giving me the background which enhances my understanding and appreciation.

I am sorry I missed getting together with you. My weeks are so congested with work, school and family the only time I can breathe is in the summer. However, if you are in the area again let me know -- I'll make time.

As always,

Gwen

Dear David,

Glad to hear the book reached you safely. We really should try and get together to talk about our travels, but being the Chair of the Spanish Department, trying to work on my research, teach four different courses & shuttle back & forth to Charleston (where James is hibernating & looking for a more permanent roost for us come summer) leaves me no time to do the things I really [underlined] want [/underlined] to do --

My adventuresome Argentinian trip camping in a pup tent, finding the giant pillar with anthropomorphic face which I had read about in the early chronicles and discovering the remains of a colonial Settlement at the foothills of the Sierras in the central region of the Pampas -- was an experience I shall [underlined] never [/underlined] forget!

[CONTINUED FROM PAGE 3]

The landscape was wild & beautiful & the Director of the Museum of Natural History of Mendoza, his wife and a colleague from the Museum taught me how to survive on berries & herbs avoid poisonous Yarara vipers (we killed a 10 foot one) and chicken eating tarantulas.

The wild horses, ostriches eagles, hawks, birds, wild flowers and Southern hemisphere skies more than made up for the above creatures, however.

James sends his best and I'm forwarding this note from Don Goodale who was a classmate of James at the Fogg since he would enjoy hearing from you about Afro Brazilian forms if you are ever in California. He was in D.C. in October & told us about the Law show coming to Brooklyn.

Take care & Best wishes
