AFRICAN STUDIES ASSOCIATION RESEARCH LIAISON COMMITTEE 218 Schiffman Center Brandeis University Waltham, Massachusetts 02154

ASA DIRECTORY OF SUB-SAHARAN AFRICAN ARTS & ARTIFACTS IN CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES

The Research Liaison Committee of the African Studies Association is now preparing a director of African arts and artifacts in the United States and Canada. A questionnaire is enclosed which we would like you to complete and return to us at your earliest convenience, or not later than August 1st [crossed out & handwritten in "15th"].

This directory is part of our research and publishing program and should be of particular use to persons interested in mounting Africana exhibits who do not have adequate materials themselves . . . scholars and students who do not presently specialize in African art and wish to familiarize themselves with materials available in their locality . . . and finally, to teachers at all levels who wish to develop or expand their use of such materials in teaching about Africa.

We are interested in contacting private collectors as well as museums and other public collections. If you are not a private collector, but could recommend any in your area who might like to be listed, we would very much appreciate your adding their names to the back of this sheet and returning it with the questionnaire.

Finally, if you are located at a university and a collection of African art or artifacts exists elsewhere on your campus, could you please forward this to the curator?

Our brochure is enclosed for your information. Thank you very much for your assistance in this project.

Sincerely, Luis E. Yglesias for the Research Liaison Committee
