I am aware that a few of the above names were not involved in the Negro Renaissance of the 20's nor the Federal Art Projects of the 30's but they were professionals during one or the other and some are still busy at work.
Let me know what you think. Add any name that I may have overlooked, and question me about any that I have listed. My feeling is that many should be contacted, because other obligations would probably prevent many from making the date.
By now you must have seen the new art text The Afro-American Artist a Search for Identity by Elsa Honig Fine - Holt, Rinehart and Winston - 1973 Editor: Don Wheeler
In early 1970 I sent Don Wheeler of Holt a copy of my Black Art Perspective. He suggested a text to go along with the teacher's manuel [sic]. Later Sister Perry told me that she had done a book on black art for Holt. Now I see the above publication -- what happened?
There is another thing around just published -- a sort of directory on the Afro-American Artists. I've never seen such miss information[sic]. E.J. Montgomery had something to do with it, since Whites and Africans are listed. It seemed as though someone deliberately mixed my biography with my Son.
This is more of a reason as to why we must get together as soon as possible! Write soon.
Sincerely,
Claude
