2. I wish to congratulate you on presenting The White House Salute to America's Authors Series. I shall be pleased to send along a copy of my recent book, THE OTHER SIDE OF COLOR, which has a chapter on the Harlem Renaissance if you advise.

With all good wishes, I remain,

Sincerely,

David C. Driskell

Dear Mrs. Bush,

I so very much regret that your kind invitation to attend The White House Symposium on The Harlem Renaissance did not reach me in time, partly because I am now retired from teaching at the University of Maryland but also due to the mail not being forwarded to me.

I called your secretary and gave her my direct mailing address. Certainly, I shall want to be included at future events.

The Harlem Renaissance is a subject I have written about and I have been a friend of David L. Lewis over the years.
