Dear David,
Wholeheartedly I express my satisfaction and congratulate you for your nomination as a chairman of our art department.
Also with pride I inform you that seven of my present and former students-artists are accepted and and currently exhibiting their lithographs in a very significant, first of this kind juried show. Distinguished printmakers of Washington and area, yesterday opened in Jane Harrison Gallery. Even one of their student[s] is also accepted. This way I become a "Grandfather in Lithography."
I congratulate you and our department for this important recognition.
Wishing you happy summer vacations.
Yours sincerely,

Dear David:
It has been a rather long time since I've written to you, yet I think of you often. I should write more but time seems to always be a negative factor. I hope this letter finds everyone in good health. Everyone here is well. I was in your part of the country in April, at the University of Maine at Orono. I was a visiting artist for a few days; it was a wonderful experience. I knew the country was beautiful, but I didn't know it was that beautiful! I hope to return someday. My show went quite well for me. I got good reviews and responses to my work. A considerable amount of the work was done after your visit that I would like very much for you to see. I hope to have slides soon. The bronze that ou asked me about called "In The Bag" I saved for you if you are still interested. The price on that work is [redacted] if you wish for me to pack it just let me know when and where. I am now completing the second part of the "Biko" series. I wish very much that you were near that we could [crossed out: docuss] discuss these ideas. Oh, thanks for the article on Steve Biko it helped. It gave me this thought: "No one mounds his passing And few know that he's gone Steve Biko doesn't live here anymore"
Peace David, ( ?)

Dear Mr. Driskell,
I am grateful for your note of sympathy. In spite of John's long illness I kept hoping he might recover & I miss him sadly.
It is good news that you are back in our area & are Chairman of the Art dept. at Md., a university with which we have had family connections.

for a long time.
I shall indeed look forward to our having lunch together, perhaps sometime when you are coming to the National Gallery, where I still have work that requires my being there frequently.
With all good wishes,
