1 January 1900 Mon. 1. Cold. Clear. The first day of the year but not the new Century - much discussion has been caused by a difference of opinion on this subject. Poor little Annie [Laurman?] died at 9 last night. Five yrs old last May and named after Mother. she had tubercular - meningitis - Harriet came up to get me to telephone etc - Auntie Brooke went down there later and Mother and I in the afternoon. The men getting ice. Lorenzo here. Agnes washed

June. 2. Ditto. Father and Mother went ito Sandy SpringStore, Mill etc. Lorenzo to Olney for feed and to Mt. Olney for butter - box. Agnes can hardly speak above a whisper with a cold. Newman and Charlie at home all day. Had horse and carriage in the afternoon to go to the funeral - very late. Long evening.

Wedn. 3. Ditto. A little warmer. Hauling ice from our pond, and Mr. Mitz's. [Li?] came up for two [brads?] . Margaret called and she and I drove out to the pond. The kitchen fire so bad we could not get any dinner cooked and it was so cold in the kitchen. Turner came for Auntie Brooke to go to Howard. Mr. as Mrs. Moore go to New York tomorrow for several weeks. Charlie went to Brookeville Mill.

2 January. 1900. Thurs. 4. Clear. Cooler. Churned in the morn and printed in the afternoon. Mysterious person on the telephone called 7and said it was "Mary Brooke at Falling Green." little imp! Mother busy all day. I finished my pink shirt waist begun last fall. Machine sewed like a breeze. [green?] hauled wood. George called also Washer Chichester. Charlie took butter to Mt Olney in the am and bought back nice magazines from Mrs Pilling

Fri. 5. Clear. Warmer. Rained at night. Mr. Ryan and Lous birthday Mother and I started early for S.S. she went on to Cousin Charlie Porter's to call. Then to Norwood for A.B. and to Sharon to call back To Norwood to dine - I went to the Insurance Office to fold statements only a few there and we finished there in 1 hr. 35 min. Madge Maury. Sallie Brooks, Mary Magander, Jennie Stabler, Sadie Moore, Mae Thomas, and Dora Iddings at the big table. Busir Robicon Elizabeth Stabler part of the time, and I at the other. at the end of which Mr. Farquhar sat to write letters and keep the girls from getting too gay.
