Hilsborough 17th September 1785 Dear Madam The Letter which covers this will let you know the particulars of the Melancholy event that happen'd the third of last May, your own feeling will excuse me from Saying more on this Subject than barely touching it You may rest assured his will Shall be religiously fullfilled by me, the Loss is irreparable to us both, but it was the will of heaven, I Look on it as my duty to do every thing in my power that can in any way contribute to your ease or conveniency and you will do me a particular pleasure in leting me know any thing that will be agreable to you- I would have sent you a mourning ring but there is no body here can make it- if you chase I will send you some hair to have it made to your own taste. I hope you will write me & Let me know how you keep your health. with my Love and duty to you. I am Dear Madam your affectionate Daughter Signed~ Amelia Johnston
