Sagrill September 4th 1800
Dear Brother
We had a very pleasant ride down & found the family quite well except poor Sam who was extremely ill for twentyfour hours, but he has entirely recovered, we should be glad to hear from Mr Gales by John if you have received any information from him since we left you, we shoud be glad to hear also how will Mrs Jonston and the ladies are and when they intend leaving Chapel Hill. I should not have known what to have done with myself after such a round of agreeable company, if I had not obtain the loan of the myteries of Udolpho, I think Mrs. Radcliffe paints vice in the most despicable and virtue in the most pleasing colours of any writer I ever read. I expect my friend Miss Somervill to day who I hope will remain with me for a week or ten days. Papa & Mamma write in love to you cousin Thomas & Jack and believe me dear Brother to be your truly affectionate sister

P.S.
since writing the above Mr Lyne has arrived without my friend Sue
