Aug 15th 1846
Resolved that I will neither treat nor be treated to any kind of
eatables or drinkings for the following reasons

1st It is a useless expenditure of money oftentimes hurtful to the
system Therefore
2nd If one can afford to waste money thus he had better expend it
in a more useful & profitable manner and
3rd If he has but limited means, the first indulgence will but beget
a second third & so on and thus induce an extravagance
which he will find very much to his disadvantage
Therefore as the money I have is earned by my parents
for my advantage and for preparing me for usefulness, & not
to be wasted it does not behove me to spend it in this
hurtful & useless manner & as my parents will not have
more to leave me than a good education, it concerns my
future success & prosperity to learn & practice now hab
its of frugality & economy Resolved that I will take this
for a fixed rule & principle and stick to it

We the undersigned do on this 23rd dasy of September
A. D. 1847

We the undersigned, being moved by other considerations
as well as pecuniary, do on this 23rd day of September A. D.
1847 resolve that till the termination of the present Medical
year, we will have nothing more to do in shape, form or substance
with Fairs
