29 had a merry pleasant time of it were invited to dine a family dinner on the morrow Crambo was written Mrs P. & John were the muses of the evening played chess with Miss Byrdie she beat me two games Betty was quite busy looking sewing Saturday Dec 29th

[1850] Saturday Jan 26th An interregnum in my Journal induced at first by the little time & inclination I had for writing, after workimg at Dr Drake's Index till 11 o'clock The press of that being over & I feeling a return of fondness for my neglected book, resume its scribbling Have just returned from Mrs King's where John & I have been spending the evening very sociably and agreeably we took tea according to invitation agreeable people they are what splendid music Mrs K mak'es upon her grand piano I painted for Dr Bayless at my room here this morning must stick here as much as possible painted the malpighian cor puscules of the Kidney 'tis a pleasure to paint for him indeed have another to do on Monday listened to his lecture dined at Mr McGuffey's bot a load of wood for him on 5th St my first effort in this way Got a letter for john from Julia & Wade a long one both much disgusted with Ma rianna & Wade says John must'nt return there that he must go to Columbus carried it to John at the Dental college called on Mrs Bayless had a pleasant little visit it seems that Mrs Relph alias Miss Sally Browne of old time, has actually named her infant daughter after me Estelle Hents Relph an honor, great & highly appreciated when assured that it is a fact, I shall expend my epis tolary energies upon a sheet of paper to Mrs R. how I'd love to see her Miss Mary'll be up on next Thursday or Friday Met Mrs Page at Mrs Sloo's when calling for a moment

& Betty & Eddy at Mr Read's room called at Dr Aydelotte's, but he was not in; came back to my room Mrs P. had left my curtain which the young ladies had kindly sewed I put it up. am improving the appearance of my office within, will take some pride in it Carrird my Daguerreotypes of Mother & Julia & Callie to Mrs King's the fire bells are ringing [???] get ready for bed I believe

Jan 27th Sabbath morning oh how glorious all nature seems reposing in the hazy, holy quiet that becomes the Sabbath, sending upwards a radiant exhalation of praise Dr Drake has called down to see me has just stepped in to Mr Goforth's & I am awaiting his return to go down street with him, to accompany Byrdie & Miss Sophy over the river, whither they are going
